22ct Gold Initial Signet Ring - UK Size M | Lucille London

This buttery gold signet ring bears engraved initials on its face, believed to be 'HRM'.   Likely created for use as a seal, the intricate engraving on this piece is absolutely beautiful, regardless of whether the initials lend themself to your own.

Signet rings, also known as seal rings, were extremely popular in the 1700s and 1800s.  As well as denoting status and identity, the rings were made with a flat face so they could be used to press into wax seals, leaving an imprint.  At a time where few people could write, this imprint was once an important form of authentication; the seal from a signet ring is extremely difficult to forge.

We imagine this beautiful 22ct gold signet ring was used as an intaglio seal, with the engraved initials being imprinted on the wax by its owner.

The hallmarks inside the ring have faded with age and only the 22ct stamp can be deciphered.  Due to this, it is impossible to find the exact age of the ring, however, the intricate engraving, its likely use as a wax seal, and the wear to the hallmarks suggest this is an antique piece.   It is in otherwise excellent vintage/antique condition.

The signet face measures 10mm, tapering to a 2mm band at the back of the ring.
